“To enjoy the glow of good health, you must exercise”   – Gene Tunney

Cardio or strength?   Fitness enthusiasts ask this question often.  Most exercises focus on one or the other; few incorporate both.   In recent years, a new workout regimen has exercise physiologists singing its praises – High-Intensity Functional Training (HIFT).   A recent study by The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found HIFT to be the most efficient form of exercise, as it results in marked improvements to both muscular and cardiovascular health.  HIFT includes functional exercises that emphasize movements performed in everyday life and often incorporates body weight resistance to improve balance and core strength.  Interspersed throughout the workout are high-intensity interval cardio sessions to raise the heart rate and burn fat.  For those whose busy schedules are encroaching upon New Year’s resolutions, HIFT could be the answer.
